Fit Dad Diaries: How Felix Builds Strength, Routine & Joy with His Son
“The whole day with a little guy like that? Sometimes it’s insanely heavy. Literally.”
Meet Felix, 31 — personal trainer, full-time dad, and full-time role model.
His 1.5-year-old son Niko may be small, but he’s already lifting, climbing, and yelling “Wraaaah!” like he’s mid-workout at the gym. And in a way? He is.
Movement Starts at Home (and the Gym)
From the very beginning, Niko has joined Felix on his gym shifts — riding along in the bakfiets and hanging out in a space that feels more like a neighborhood clubhouse than a gym.
“I wanted him to grow up seeing movement as just part of life,” Felix says.
“If he watches me train, if he sees others move — it becomes normal. It becomes fun.”
At home, Niko lifts crocheted dumbbells (inspired by Rogue’s baby barbell set), mimics his dad’s exercises, and turns everyday moments into mini training sessions. Not because he’s told to — because he wants to.
The Challenge: Keep It Playful, Not Pressured
Felix isn’t trying to raise a top athlete. He’s raising a kid who loves movement.
“I’m not pushing him. I let him try what he enjoys. Right now? Climbing. He’s obsessed.”
For Felix, the key is freedom through movement: letting Niko explore, fail, and try again — while trusting his own pace. That might mean climbing more than talking right now. And that’s okay.
As a dad, Felix sees it as his responsibility to make movement inviting — not forced. He knows that as Niko grows, new challenges will come. Like screen time.
“Gaming is designed to hijack dopamine. I want sport to do that instead.”
Because like games, sport brings rewards. Progress. Belonging. Confidence.
Walk the Talk
Here’s the realest thing Felix says:
“If I’m slumped on the couch every night with 15 kilos of extra weight, then telling my kid to go move… it’s just not fair.”
At BabyGains, we believe exactly the same: kids follow what you show them, not what you say.
That’s why movement starts with you — the fit parent, the fun coach, the floor-crawling gym buddy.
